TikTok users may soon be able to restrict viewing of live broadcasts to adults only.
as such TechCrunch Reports(Opens in a new window)TikTok is testing a setting that provides banners with a “mature themes” button, which, when toggled, limits live broadcasts to adults only.
Based on screenshots from product intelligence firm Watchful.ai, published by TechCrunch, the new setting is not an invitation for explicit content. Instead, it’s a way to prevent minors from stumbling upon adult or uninteresting videos. TikTok’s Community Guidelines include policies around nudity, sexuality, and violence, and they still apply even with the mature setting enabled.
“We’ve heard directly from creators that sometimes they just want to reach a certain audience that is older. So, for example, they might create comedy that includes humor for adults, or they give some kind of boring workplace advice with a sense of humor. Adults only link. Or maybe they are talking about very difficult life experiences,” Tracy Elizabeth, head of issues policy at TikTok in the US said last February. “Given these kinds of topics, we’re testing ways to help creators better reach the target audience for their specific content.”
