While we’ve heard plenty of leaks about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, we haven’t seen much of it yet, and what appears to be the best look at the potential design may be wrong.
This is according to TechTalkTV (Opens in a new tab)who claimed on Twitter that the camera design on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be almost the same as on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, rather than the sporty new design we’ve seen in unofficial renderings shared by OnLeaks – a track record leaker.
These renderings showed a camera design that looks more inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, with the lenses raised directly from the back, rather than housed in a distinct camera block.

There’s not much difference, however, as both these displays and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 feature three vertical lenses, with a flash underneath. Only the Z Fold 3 – and according to this latest leak also the Z Fold 4 – has a metal casing around the lenses.
We’d take that claim with a pinch of salt, especially since OnLeaks has a proven track record (although TechTalkTV has thoroughly leaked things in the past as well), but OnLeaks Reply to tweet (Opens in a new tab) Just saying “fuck it”, so they don’t seem to dispute the claim.
If you’re hoping for a rejuvenated design, that might be a shame, but not all news is bad, as in Follow Tweet (Opens in a new tab) TechTalkTV also claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 “will definitely have a 50MP main camera”.
This isn’t a new claim – many leakers have said the same before, but hearing it from another source makes it more likely, and that would result in an upgrade – in megapixels at least – from the 12-megapixel main camera of the Galaxy Z 3 times.
Analysis: Camera improvements are badly needed
If we had to choose between a new design or a new sensor, we’d definitely take a new one, as while the 12MP main sensor on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is good, it’s far from exceptional.
The 50MP device rumored here is likely the same 50MP sensor as the Samsung Galaxy S22, and we were somewhat impressed with its performance. Let’s say that given the high cost of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, we’ll almost certainly have a 108MP sensor from the Galaxy S22 Ultra – but we’ll take what we can get.
Previous leaks point to other camera upgrades as well, with multiple sources indicating that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will feature a 3x optical zoom camera, up from the 2x optical zoom on the Z Fold 3. Again, this isn’t a huge improvement as we’d ideally, But it’s much better than nothing. However, from what we’ve heard so far, we’re not sure the Z Fold 4 will worry our list of the best camera phones.
