The New Jersey Devils announced today that Kate Madigan has been appointed to the position of Assistant General Manager. Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald has been announced. Madigan became the first assistant general manager in the history of the New Jersey franchise and the sixth in NHL history.

“Kate has been a very valuable resource not only to me, but to all of our Hockey Operations Command staff, especially over the past three years, as part of major hockey decisions,” Fitzgerald said. “This promotion reflects the duties and responsibilities that Kate has undertaken within our organization during that time. Her diligence, work ethic, attention to detail, ability to communicate with all employees, strategy and vision are qualities I look for in our leadership. We have a great management team working together, focused solely on the development and success of this group The young core is cutting edge on and off the ice, and Kate will be leading the way. She has a very promising team for the future in the industry, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

Madigan will work as part of the small group that Fitzgerald will rely on for key input, strategy and decision making that includes roster building at the professional and amateur level, transactions, hockey staff decisions, team operations, facilities management, budgeting and as part of the team management travel party.

Madigan has been promoted from her position as CEO, Hockey Management/Operations, which she has been in since the fall of 2020. Previously she worked as Assistant, Player Information/Video from 2017-19, and was Director of Professional Scouting Operations for two seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21). . Previously, Madigan oversaw scheduling and reporting for Professional Scouting staff, while working with coaches, management, and video staff throughout the year. She coordinated logistics in connection with the 2020 and 2021 NHL Draft and Devils draft command center at Prudential Center including liaison with construction operations, IT, medical personnel, scouts, management, media relations and the NHL.

Madigan holds a master’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University. She has spent her time at Women in Sports & Events (WISE) events. She recently completed a TEDxBoston talk about her work in the Devils front office titled: In the Sports Management Suite, Present is Female.
