John Govia, the former head of the USA softball team, has been arrested and charged with eight counts of obscenity and debauchery with a child under the age of 14, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office (California) Tuesday.

On April 14, Juvia, 61, was booked into the Alameda (California) County Jail on an arrest warrant that includes a $250,000 bail. After that, Gouveia issued bail and was released the same day, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Gouveia was associated with USA Softball from 1991 to 2019, which included his tenure as USA Softball.

“USA Softball has become aware of the allegations made against a former USA Softball volunteer officer, John Gouveia. The individual has resigned from all positions in USA Softball and does not currently hold any role or responsibility within the organization,” USA Softball said in a statement. “After first learning about these allegations today through local media, USA Softball has reported the allegations to the US Center for Safe Sports and to Sacramento County Child Protection Services.”
