Wimbledon, England – Wimbledon quarter-final champion Nick Kyrgios is due to appear in court in Australia next month, and a lawyer representing him said on Tuesday that the “accurate nature” of the allegations “is not confirmed at this moment nor confirmed by the prosecution or” a professional tennis player reported. She is 27 years old.
“While Mr. Kyrgios is committed to addressing any and all allegations as soon as they become clear, taking the matter seriously does not warrant any misreading of the process that Mr. Kyrgios has to follow,” attorney Pierre Johansen wrote in a statement emailed to the media.
“The allegations are not considered factual” by the court, Johansen wrote, and Kyrgios is not considered “accused” of a crime until his first court appearance.
The Canberra Times reports that Kyrgios is due to appear in court on August 2. The newspaper quoted local police as saying that a 27-year-old Australian man was involved in a case of “common assault following an incident in December 2021”.
Canberra police did not immediately respond to a request hours later for comment sent by the Associated Press.
Kyrgios is scheduled to play Christian Garin at Wimbledon on Wednesday. It’s the Australian’s third Grand Slam quarter-finals grand slam – he’s 0-2 in the other matches – and the first in 7-1/2 years.
An ATP spokesperson said: “The ATP is aware of the Australian case involving Nick Kyrgios, but as legal proceedings are ongoing, it is inappropriate to provide further comment at this time.”
