Paris Saint-Germain announce Head coach Mauricio Pochettino was sacked on Tuesday after a season and a half leading the powerful French team.

ESPN Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly reached an agreement with Nice worth around 10 million euros ($10.3 million) for Christophe Galtier, who led Lille to the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title, to take over as their new coach.

The Parisians won Ligue 1 for the eighth time in the last 10 years last season, but their results in other tournaments did not live up to expectations.

They suffered a 1-0 loss to Lille in the season’s inaugural Champions Cup, and were eliminated in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and Coupe de France. This was the first time since 2012-2013 that they had not won at least two titles.

Pochettino, who has previously coached Espanyol, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, amassed a record of 55, 15 and 14 during his time at Parc des Princes.

Gallier is a three-time Ligue 1 General Manager who put together his impressive group when he led Lille to a one-point win over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020-21 league table.

The 55-year-old Frenchman moved to Nice last summer and has emerged as a favorite of PSG sporting director Louis Campos in the off-season. The club’s ownership group wanted Zinedine Zidane, the former France international and Real Madrid coach, but he turned down the interest, according to ESPN.

French outlet RMC Sports (via AS’ reported) Andres Onrobia and Kieran Coyle) that Zidane is focused on taking over the French national team after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, PSG have upgraded their squad with a pair of high-profile signings, midfielder Vitina and left-back Nuno Mendes, ahead of the 2022-23 season.

They will join a roster led by the star-studded attacking trio of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar, who amassed 63 goals in all competitions last season.

Paris Saint-Germain begins pre-season preparations on July 15 against Quivilly Rouen and plays its first competitive match on July 31 when it faces Nantes in the Champions Cup.

Ligue 1 season begins on August 7.
