Quarterback Tom Brady’s retirement this season surprised a lot of people, but after just 40 days the seven-time Super Bowl champion decided he wasn’t really done with football and announced his return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before announcing his return, Brady texted some of his teammates about his comeback, and one in particular thought the 44-year-old was playing a joke.

“I just laughed, and said, ‘To my defense, I didn’t know you were going to retire,'” Evans recalls.

Brady then responded with a laughing emoji and wrote, “There’s more downfall in our future.”

More landings meant a comeback, but since Brady had already announced he was hanging up his cleats, Evans said, “I thought he was trolling me.

“A few hours later, it was announced that he would be back.”

The receiving duo of quarterbacks already won the Super Bowl together, on their home court, in Brady’s first year with the team. Brady has shown he’s not slowing down yet, so the Bucs once again have a chance to run for the championship.

Their offensive will be without a major character this season after Rob Gronkowski’s second retirement, but the unit has brought back Evans and Chris Goodwin and former Batlanta Falcons wide welcome Russell Gage. Expect Evans to have another big year, averaging 72 receptions, 1020.5 yards and 13.5 touchdowns in two seasons with Brady in Tampa Bay.
