The transition from college to the NFL isn’t easy for any player, but especially for a player transitioning from basketball to soccer. Cleveland Browns Tights Marcos Santos Silva is making the transition from college basketball, yes basketball, to professional soccer.

Santos-Silva played college basketball for Texas Tech and VCU before signing an unformed free agent deal with the Browns in May. There’s no guarantee he’ll make the 53-man roster for Brown’s regular season, but the 6-6, 261-pound player is working toward that goal.

Building a roster in the NFL is already tough, but now Santos Silva says he’s learning “a whole new language” as he trades the pitch on the field.

“I’m not really worried about the body part. I know I’m going to get beaten up and banned and all that. I’m good at it. Once I stop, I’m going back to holding my ground there.” Santos Silva said, via the team site.

For now, he wants to make sure he knows the plays inside and out.

“…since we have this rest period until training camp, one of my main goals is to stick to the rules of the game,” he said. He also keeps an eye on other narrow extremities, saying the main person he looks to is now retired Rob Gronkowski, to study “foot movements and blocking.”

He’s not the first player to attempt the transition from basketball to soccer at this level and he took advice from the Indianapolis Colts tight-knit Mo Alie-Cox, who did the same.

About his conversations with Alie-Cox, Santos Silva He said“The pointers he gave me really helped me because I had sort of a vision of what it would be like.”

Regarding Why Santos-Silva decided to make the transition, “I saw there were no clients in the NBA hitting me, it was all abroad and I didn’t really want to go abroad, I wanted to stay at home. So I was like ‘You know what?” Let me do the NFL way.”

persistence, is He said (Via Sports Illustrated), “The main thing is that I don’t want to have any regrets. I was so grateful for what basketball has done for me. I had this opportunity and now I am ready for a new journey.”

Santos Silva has enjoyed his journey so far and is ready to give everything he can to make the team.

He said, “I’m 100 per cent committed to this whole thing. I really want to make this work because I had so much fun with it.”
