ATLANTA (AFP) – The Atlanta Braves paid tribute to longtime public speaking announcer Casey Mutter Monday night at a party before the team’s first home game since his death last week.
After a video salute to Mutter, a minute’s silence was observed in his memory before the game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mutter, 53, died last Wednesday. He’s been the Braves’ public speaking announcer since 2007 and has worked through the team’s former home, which ended June 26.
Motter became known as the Voice of Trustee Park, which opened as the team’s suburban home in 2017 after moving from Turner Field in downtown Atlanta. He was known for his “Hello baseball fans” introduction that he threw out loud before every match.
Sam Franco, who served as a public speaking announcer at some University of Georgia athletics events, took up assignments Monday night. Franco will continue to serve as the announcer of public discourse through the 10-game house.
Starting Tuesday night, the Braves will use some of Motter’s recorded fan greetings and other announcements in home games for the remainder of the season.
Mutter grew up in Cobb County, home of Troist Park. A funeral will be held on Wednesday in his hometown of Smyrna, Georgia.
The cause of Mutter’s death was not announced.
