Another day in the life of America. Another mass shooting. Another mass murder. This time, it happened at the Fourth of July Parade in Highland Park, Illinois. A gunman climbed an unsecured staircase to an unsecured rooftop and shot 30 unsuspecting people, killing six of them.

After being at large for most of the day, the killer was caught.

bears issued a statement Regarding the latest tragedy regarding guns, humans are too restless and evil to ever own them. It’s what happens at times like these, even if he does nothing.

Our thoughts and prayers. At this point, it’s more a caricature than a cliché. However, this worn-out phrase made its way into the team’s statement. What can really be said?

The problem is simply beyond our ability to properly diagnose and repair. We can’t do that. We can try. We can take simple steps. But it will never be resolved conclusively because we lack the political will to do so. People may want to, but the politicians we elected won’t. And those who think it is easy to replace politicians who resist purposeful safety laws that do not prevent responsible gun ownership do not understand how the toxically flawed two-party system works.

Here’s the truth. If you are going to live here, you need to accept being shot to death in a public place as one of the daily risks of leaving your home. Go to the grocery store, the military parade, the church, the school, wherever it is and you might be shot and killed. A person who has no interest in owning a gun may have acquired a gun and will likely appear and aim at you or someone you have an official duty to protect but cannot.

You can’t do that because we’re broken. Fundamentally, in all respects, there is no going back. Those who are supposed to be the best among us are the worst, selling American lives for political support and acting like they never did anything like that even though everyone knows it.

Anyway, this is who we are as a people. as a nation. It does not change. Some like to say, America, love it or leave it. Lots of Americans love it, but they’ll never really feel safe unless they pack up and leave it.
