St Andrews is widely considered the “home of golf” because the game was first played on the course in the early 15th century, so it is fitting that the 150th Open Championship will be held on the old course in St Andrews. The 2022 Open will begin on Thursday 14 July and will be the 30th time St Andrews will host the Grand Tournament. Tiger Woods has won two of his three British titles in St Andrews and despite suffering long-term complications from a car accident in February 2021, he is preparing to try to play in the 2022 Open.

Woods is back in action and has miraculously made the cuts at the 2022 Masters despite an obvious limp. He did it again in the PGA Championship before dropping out over the weekend and skipping the US Open. Now, he has a 40-1 long lead in the 2022 Open Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Rory McIlroy has been playing exciting golf late outside the odd nine-hole range at the Travelers Championship and is a 9-1 favorite in the 2022 British Open odds. Before you sign up for the 2022 Open picks, make sure See golf predictions and predicted leaderboard from the computer model installed in SportsLine.

SportsLine’s ownership model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been super hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, he’s up nearly $9600 on his best bets since that point, championship after tournament.

At the 2022 Masters, Model McClure was to win over Scotty Scheffler’s first major championship win of his career before the weekend. The model also pinned Tiger Woods’ exact position in the Augusta National final before the tournament started (47). Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Colin Morikawa’s straight win at the 2021 Open, although he was listed as a massive 40-1 shot.

This same model has also had a huge eight major contracts entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.

Now that the 2022 Open field is starting to emerge, SportsLine has simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results are surprising. Head over to SportsLine now to see the predicted leaderboard for the 2022 Open.

Best Predictions for the 2022 Open Championship

One huge surprise that the model invites into the 2022 Open: Scotty Scheffler, the world’s #1 ranked player and one of the top favorites, stumbles at St Andrews and barely cracks for the top five. Schaeffler has been undoubtedly the best player on the PGA Tour this season, winning four times and earning nine times in the top 10. He won his first major tournament at the Masters Tournament and finished second at the US Open.

However, Schaeffler has placed thirteenth or worse in five of his last seven entries, which include a PGA Championship lost cut. This subpar performance can be directly attributed to his struggles in setting. Scheffler averages 28.70 points per round, which ranks 88th in the round. Additionally, he ranks 135th in one-shot percentage (38.48) and 96th in total-shot ratio (211.8). It’s not a solid pick to win it all, and there are much better values in the Open Championship 2022.

The model also revealed where Tiger Woods will finish at the 2022 Open. At the height of his power, Woods dominated St Andrews in 2000, winning eight shots over Thomas Bjorn and Ernie Els to win his first British Championship. When he returned for the 2005 Open Championship, he won again, defeating Colin Montgomery by five strokes.

However, he finished 23rd on his next appearance at St Andrews in 2010 and missed the cut in 2015. Woods clearly knows his way around the courts, but he simply can’t beat the track like he did before. While we’ve seen him use course management to defy the odds at a major tournament before (2008 US Open, 2019 Masters), we’ll see his physical condition after the obvious impact his leg had on him at the Southern Hills PGA Championship.
