FORT CAMPBELL, Kentucky (AP) – Soldiers at Fort Campbell are holding a ceremony Tuesday to celebrate the deployment in Europe, the first time the 101st Airborne have been deployed to Europe in nearly 80 years.

The 101st Airborne Battalion, Headquarters and the 101st Airborne Main Battalion will put on their colors for the ceremony. Color wrap is an army tradition that represents movement to a new location.

The Army said the division will also host a ceremony to welcome the new deputy support officer, Col. Scott Wilkinson, and announce the departure of the division’s chief of staff, Col. Stephen Schrader.

Soldiers from the 101st began arriving in Europe in late June.

The sprawling Fort Campbell Army site straddles the Kentucky-Tennessee line.
