O’s beat Rangers 7-6 on a hit batter, 37-44 at midpoint

BALTIMORE (AP) – Jorge Matteo limps to first base when Matt Moore hit him near the left knee with bases loading in the 10th inning, and the Baltimore Orioles reached mid-season by coming from behind late to beat the Texas Rangers 7-6 Monday.

Rookie Adly Rochman, who started the day slipping 0 for 18, tied the score against Joe Barlow with an RBI double in the ninth that hit the right field wall.

Rogned Odor drove 10th by one stroke off Moore which advances auto sprinter Austin Hayes to third, and Moore purposely walked into Ramón Urías to load the bases. Then Moore (3-1) hit Matthew with his next pitch, at 93.5 mph.

“Full team play,” said Brandon Hyde, Orioles manager. “Fabulous. Makes the jug come out of the pile. Playing hard for him. That was huge.”

Matthew leaned in pain for about six seconds. After crossing the plate, Hayes accompanied the initially faltering Matthew with Cedric Mullins, who was on deck, and smelled.

“We are the kind of person where we all get together,” Odor said. “We are as a family. When you have a team like this, a lot of good things can happen. That’s why we’ve been having these rematches.”

In the third inning, Mathieu reached an interference call from the catcher on Meibrys Viloria and scored two goals from Cedric Mullins.

Baltimore took its sixth win and reached its mid-season point at 37-44, a big improvement from 27-54 at the halfway point last year. The Orioles are 23-20 after a 14-24 start.

Brian Baker (3-3) scored two goals in 10 undefeated for the Orioles, who won despite a 2 for 12 lead with the sprinters in the scoring position

Orioles novice Dean Kramer allowed five runs, eight four-strokes, and two walks over 4 2/3 innings — his shortest outing since his season debut on June 5.

“Huge struts for the attack and the board,” Kramer said. “They took me so long. To come back like this, so good.”

And the fly by Adulis Garcia in the fifth game raised the Rangers fly to 2-1. Texans scored four more times in the inning over RBI singles Nathaniel Lowe and Homer Mitch Garver three times.

Mullins cut the gap to 5-3 in the fifth inning with Homer VII. The Orioles tied the score in sixth on a foul by Lowe on a difficult Grone Jonathan Araz who allowed two runs to score.

Homer Marcos Simin in the ninth game off Jorge Lopez put Rangers ahead 6-5. Tre Mancini topped the bottom half while Rochman, who scored in the second half, scored his 12th brace in 35 matches to make Barlow his third save in 13 chances.

Texas Champion Dane Dunning gave up five runs — three of which he earned — and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

“You can’t take these guys too seriously,” said Chris Woodward, Rangers manager. “Their bases are very good and they have some good guns in there. If you take these guys seriously, they will be blown away. We saw that a little bit last year.”
