Real Madrid won the 14th European Champions League title in 2022 by defeating Liverpool in the final

The UEFA Men’s Champions League will be broadcast on BBC TV for the first time from the 2024-25 season.

Highlights will be shown from 22:00 on Wednesday match weeks on BBC TV, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, with clips available online and social media.

The three-year agreement includes the final, with those highlights confirmed.

It complements the existing BBC Radio 5 live commentary rights for the European Football Premier League’s premier club competition.

From the 2024-25 season, viewers will be able to watch the highlights of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup on BBC.

The deal was secured as part of a recent UEFA rights auction. Wednesday’s highlights include events from all the Champions League matches that week, bringing viewers all the unmissable goals and moments.

Elsewhere, Amazon Prime will show live matches for the first time and you’ll get the first pick of Tuesday night games.

BT Sport will keep all the live games and other highlights in the The new form of competition.

BBC sports director Barbara Slater said: “We are simply delighted to have won these rights.

“Our reach and ability to bring people together is unparalleled and we could not be happier that UEFA has recognized the value in our ability to bring the Champions League to the widest possible audience across the UK.

“This bundle of highlights and digital content will allow football fans to follow the Champions League, wherever and however they like.

“The Champions League is a fantastic addition to our collection of BBC football output and we can’t wait to get started in 2024.”

The Champions League will be expanded from 32 to 36 teams from the 2024-25 season, with all teams at one table, playing eight matches against different opponents.

The top eight will advance to the knockout stage, while those from ninth to twenty-fourth will compete in a two-game playoff to advance.

Real Madrid is the current title holder, lifting the cup for the 14th time, after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final in Paris last season.

Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA Marketing Director, said: “We are delighted to partner with BBC UK for 2024-2027, as the highlights of the Champions League are broadcast on Wednesday for the first time.

“The BBC brand is synonymous with premium sport and will apply its extensive experience to provide extensive coverage of the UEFA Champions League to audiences in the market.”
